Chelsea are reportedly considering a bid for Schalke hotshot Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and could get him for as little as €6million, according to reports in Germany.

German website 4-4-2.com are reporting that Chelsea are interested in providing Fernando Torres with some serious competition in the centre-forward position.

Huntelaar’s contract at the Bundesliga side is into its final year and he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with Chelsea in January, but the Stamford Bridge side could be willing to pay what would be a nominal fee for a player that scored 48 times for his club last season.

The report says the 29-year-old has rejected all new contract offers from Schalke so far and does not look like signing fresh terms.

It also claims Roberto di Matteo and Roman Abramovich would be willing to pay the relatively small fee to avoid a contract bidding war for a free transfer and the Germans may be tempted to recoup something of the €14million they paid for him, rather than losing him for free come July.
