Liverpool plan £10m Belgian winger bid
Liverpool transfer news: PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens on Brendan Rodgers' January radar
Liverpool are weighing up a January bid for PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens, according to Goal.com.
The 25-year-old Belgian has started the 2012/13 campaign in scintillating form, scoring four goals and providing six assists already for the Eredivisie outfit.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is eager to strengthen his attacking options in wide areas at Anfield, and may consider a move for the former FC Utrecht star.
"Liverpool first wanted Mertens when Kenny Dalglish was manager but they are still making their interest well known," a source close to the player told Goal.com.
"He would obviously love to play for such a prestigious club in English football but right now he can only focus on producing strong performances for PSV."
Mertens is under contract at the Philips Stadion until 2016, but according to the report is certain to leave PSV before the start of next season.
Whether or not that transfer comes about in January, time will tell, but the fact the forward is attracting interest from a host of top European clubs, could prompt Liverpool to move quickly to ensure they don't miss out on there man.
Rodgers has started the season with Fabio Borini and Raheem Sterling as his first-choice wingers, and Mertens - who is rated at around £10million - would be a quality addition to the Merseyside squad.
