Sergio Ramos emerges as Manchester United target
Manchester United transfer news: Sir Alex Ferguson monitoring Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos
Manchester United are monitoring the situation of supposedly unsettled Real Madrid central defender Sergio Ramos, it has been claimed.
Ramos has reportedly fallen out with Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho in recent weeks and his future at the Santiago Bernabeu has appeared to be in some serious doubt.
The Spain international has, however, moved to claim this week that he is content with life in Madrid, although this has failed to quell speculation that he may leave the club.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the apparent breakdown in relations between Ramos and Mourinho, with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to reinforce his defence.
Ferguson's backline has been beset by troubles this season, with injury condemning captain Nemanja Vidic to the sidelines for a significant period of time.
Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have also been on the treatment table, while the long-term fitness of Rio Ferdinand as he enters into the latter stages of his career is a cause for concern.
A deal for Ramos would certainly be a coup for United, although Chelsea have also been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old.
Reports claim Roman Abramovich is ready to back manager Roberto di Matteo with €50 million in order to bring Ramos to Stamford Bridge in January.
