Theo Walcott is reportedly ready to sign a new deal at Arsenal and talks could be concluded before December.
A report in the Sunday Mirror claims that the 23-year-old wants to stay in north London with the Gunners and is ready to sign a new three-year extension.
Walcott’s current contract expires next summer and he would be free to talk to other clubs come the January transfer window and arrange a free transfer elsewhere.
Arsene Wenger has always insisted he wants the England winger to stay at Arsenal and this report suggest he may get his wish.
Walcott came off of the substitute bench to give the Gunners the lead in their 3-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday and is hoping he will get further chances to impress from the start of matches.
While he would not be drawn on the issue of a new deal, the former Southampton trainee insisted he would continue to work hard to regain his place in Wenger’s first XI.
“I have to play the waiting game for now. I just want to get back in the team and show people what I can do,” he said.
Arsenal received some criticism when the summer transfer window closed and they had failed to either agree a new deal or sell Walcott, but this report suggests the decision to continue talks could well have paid off.
