Manchester United and Arsenal face competition from Italian clubs in the race to sign highly-rated Hajduk Split midfielder Josip Radosevic, according to reports in Italy.
The 18-year-old enforcer has come to the attention of both Inter Milan and Juventus after impressive performances in the Europa League, claims TuttoMercatoWeb, with scouts from the two Serie ‘A’ sides taking a shine to the youngster.
However, the same website reported that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was keen on the player three weeks ago. And, with the reported interest of Arsenal and Manchester United, a huge transfer tussle could be around the corner in January.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with a number of defensive midfielders recently, with weekend speculation claiming both Victor Wanyama and Cheik Tiote were on the Old Trafford radar.
Radosevic was first linked with a move to Manchester United in September though, and a move in January would certainly be seen as a move for the future of the club, as Ferguson looks to build a squad capable of success after his retirement, as well as now.
For Arsenal, the signing of Radosevic would again represent manager Arsene Wenger investing in youth, as the Frenchman continues his frugal transfer policy at the Emirates Stadium.
And, following the departure of Alex Song in the summer, it would make sense for the Gunners to move for a defensive midfielder, despite Spaniard Mikel Arteta impressing in the position so far this season.
Radosevic would join a host of other youngsters in-and-around the first team at Arsenal, although the report does not state how much the player will cost.
