Manchester United starlet target Viktor Fischer is close to signing a new contract with Ajax, according to reports.

The 18-year-old Dane, who recently received a call-up to his nation’s U21 side, has drawn comparisons with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the past, with Denmark U19 coach Thomas Frank happy to build-up the player.

“Fischer is special. He can be just like Messi or Ronaldo," said Frank, according to Metro.

“He has their ambition and talent, and he always wants to score. He is hungry, always hungry, even if he has scored two or three times.”

The same publication claimed Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to sign the player in a £5 million move, but reports in Italy, Holland and Denmark now claim a new deal with the Eredivisie champions is close.

Fischer is currently contracted to the Amsterdam Arena until 2014, but the Godenzonen are eager for one of their rising stars to commit for a longer period with the club.

“We've given him a good offer for a contract that runs until 2016. Ajax is very positive about Viktor's development, and he is now considering the offer,” sports director Marc Mars told De Telegraaf, acording to

Fischer has played just once for Ajax this season, featuring in the Dutch Super Cup – a prelude to the new season - as a substitute against PSV Eindhoven.

Manchester United were always unlikely to offer the player first team football at Old Trafford however, with Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez all vying for places.

And, with that in mind, it appears a move to join the Red Devils is now out of the question, with Fischer set to continue his development in the Netherlands.
