Spurs dealt blow in ex-Arsenal star chase
Arsenal transfer news: AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini wanted by Marseille
Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is set to snub the advances of Tottenham and rejoin Marseille at the end of the season, according to reports in Italy.
TalkSPORT has revealed how the 28-year-old Frenchman looked set to leave the San Siro on a free transfer during the summer, after the Serie A giants revealed they would not be renewing his contract.
However, the club decided on a last minute u-turn, offering Flamini a new one-year deal, tying him to the club until the summer of 2013.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was credited with an interest in bringing the former Gunners star to White Hart Lane, but any hopes of agreeing a move faded, after Flamini chose to sign an extension with Milan.
The France international enjoyed four successful seasons in England, playing for Tottenham's north London rivals, Arsenal.
Flamini was handed an important role in Arsene Wenger's side, after signing from Marseille in 2004, before departing the Emirates Stadium in 2008 in a €5.6million deal.
Now, it looks as though he could return to the Stade Velodrome with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that he has told Milan he wants to leave.
