Video: Cleverley insists stunning strike was intentional

Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has insisted his goal against Newcastle United on Sunday was entirely intentional.

The youngster added the finishing touches to the Red Devils’ comprehensive 3-0 win at St James’ Park on Sunday, but many observers believe he may not have meant to despatch the ball into the top corner.

Manchester United went to second in the table after two early goals from Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra gave them a comfortable first half lead and Cleverley’s goal came at just the right time.

Alan Pardew’s team were threatening to get back into the game before the 23-year-old’s looping effort dropped into the top corner midway through the second half.

The Manchester United youth product took to Twitter after the game to tell his followers that he meant to score.

“Good performance good win and great fans. Of course I meant it!” he said.

So, was it a fluke or not? Watch it below and leave a comment to tell us what you think…
