£10m Drogba protege opens transfer door to Chelsea
Chelsea transfer news: Wilfried Bony open to Premier League move
Chelsea striker target Wilfried Bony has put Premier League clubs on alert after admitting he's 'open to a departure' from Vitesse Arnhem.
The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international gave a timely reminder of his ability to suitors yesterday, grabbing a hat-trick for Vitesse Arnhem in their 3-3 draw against Heerenveen.
With seven goals already this season, Bony is amongst the early contenders to win the Eredivisie Golden Boot, but he might not be plying his trade with the club post-January.
"I know that clubs follow me, but as long as nobody is officially reported at Vitesse, I can say little about my future," he's quoted as saying on SkySports.
"The club knows that I am open to a departure, but there must be serious interest for me."
With 28 goals in 44 league games since signing for the club from Sparta Prague for £4 million, Bony has certainly repaid that figure to Vitesse, and it's no surprise that clubs like Chelsea have been linked with a move.
Roberto Di Matteo was said to be monitoring the player during the transfer window, with Bony targeted as a potential replacement for Didier Drogba.
The player has unsurprisingly drawn comparisons to his compatriot, with his power, strength and finishing ability similar to the former Chelsea hitman.
"Drogba is definitely an example for me. He is still the king of Ivory Coast," said Bony, according to Goal.com.
With a £10 million price tag in the summer, Chelsea know they will have to spend good money to bring the player to Stamford Bridge in January, but with only Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge currently on the books in the forward positions, the Italian manager could well see the player as a sound investment.
