Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has been nominated as the Premier League Player of the Year.
The Reds stopper is one of a number of Premier League stars to be nominated in the Northwest Football Awards taking place next month.
Liverpool have endured a difficult few months, but Skrtel’s partnership with Daniel Agger has, at times, looked very impressive and the Slovakian has also chipped in with his fair share of goals recently.
The Liverpool centre-back has a fair amount of competition for the prize, with a number of stars from the region that could, conceivably, be called favourites.
He will go up against Everton's John Heitinga, Manchester City's Vincent Kompany, Antonio Valencia of Manchester United, Wigan Athletic skipper Gary Caldwell, Adam Bogdan of Bolton Wanderers and Yakubu, formerly of Blackburn Rovers.
A Liverpool player was the victorious nominee last year, as Lucas Leiva was the man chosen by voters as the recipient of the award after an impressive season.
Skrtel is not the only player from Anfield up for a gong, however, young defender Martin Kelly has been nominated in the Rising Star category.
New Manchester United signing Nick Powell is also up for it, as well as exciting Blackpool winger Thomas Ince.
