Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas says he would choose Cristiano Ronaldo over Barcelona star Lionel Messi any day.
The Spain international stayed loyal to his Santiago Bernabeu team-mate when asked his opinion in the debate that seems to have gone on the past two years over who the best player in the world is out the two.
“I'd choose Cristiano over Messi because he's a player who gives us so much every season and he's a player I spend time with every day,” he is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“I know him, know who he is, know how he trains, know what he wants and where he wants to get to.”
Messi and Ronaldo gave the watching world a footballing masterclass in the first Clasico of the Primera Division season on Sunday, both of them bagging a brace in the 2-2 draw at Camp Nou.
Lionel Messi’s two goals took him to one behind Real legend Alfredo di Stefano for El Clasico top scorers – Di Stefano has 18 and Messi is sure to overtake him soon.
Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, set another record for clasico matches, as his goals made him the first player to score in six consecutive clashes between Spain’s two biggest clubs.
While it is clear where Casillas’ loyalty lies in the Messi v Ronaldo debate, his Real Madrid side are struggling to keep up with their rivals in La Liga, with Barcelona currently eight points ahead of them in the table.
