Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the situation of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, with a view to making a January transfer window offer.
Accoridng to a report in Portuguese newspaper Journal Record, the Anfield club were interested in the Chile international before he moved to Camp Nou, but could not compete with the substantial transfer paid to Udinese in 2011.
The report also claims Liverpool may be interested in exploiting the fact that Sanchez is far from a regular starter under new Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova, and could well be ready to move for him once the transfer window reopens.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have been inconsistent in front of goal so far this season and Sanchez would bring positional adaptability to the side, as well as the ability to relieve some of the goalscoring pressure that top scorer Luis Suarez is currently under.
The Liverpool boss would welcome a player of Sanchez’s ability into the squad, especially with his compatibility for the new system, and has already hinted at making a move in the window.
