Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia is one of the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Year award.
The Red Devils’ star is one of a number of Premier League stars to be nominated in the Northwest Football Awards, which take place next month.
The Ecuador international was outstanding for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team last season, as Manchester United were only beaten to the Premier League title on goal difference by bitter rivals City in the dying seconds of last season.
Despite being voted Manchester United Players’ Player and Fans’ Player of the Season last term, Valencia will not have it all his own way in the vote, as some of the Old Trafford club’s biggest rivals also have stars nominated for the gong.
He will go up against Everton's John Heitinga, Liverpool's Martin Skrtel, Vencent Kompany of Manchester City, Wigan Athletic captain Gary Caldwell, Adam Bogdan of Bolton Wanderers and Yakubu, formerly of Blackburn Rovers.
Not only do Manchester United have Valencia amongst the Premier League Player of the Year award nominees, new summer signing Nick Powell and 17-year-old Norwegian academy prospect Mats Daehli have been nominated for the Rising Star Award.
