Manchester City and Chelsea have reportedly been put on alert over the availability of Daniele de Rossi following Gazetta dello Sport’s revelations that the Roma star has fallen out with new boss Zdenek Zeman.

De Rossi revealed in a press conference in the summer that he had no intention of leaving the Stadio Olimpico despite interest from Manchester City as well as Chelsea.

De Rossi has been a long-term transfer target for Manchester City, with Citizens boss Roberto Mancini an admirer of the 29-year-old’s abilities.

Despite his insistence otherwise, Mancini refused to rule out a move that would take him to the Etihad Stadium, saying in August before Deadline Day: "I don't know this. It is difficult but I don't know what can happen. From my experience while the window is still open anything can still happen for every player."

Now though, According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zeman has accused De Rossi of a lack of professionalism, something which provoked an angry response from the Italian international.

That could mean De Rossi may go back on his word and look for a transfer out of Roma, with both Chelsea and Manchester City believed to be willing suitors.

Whether the owner of Manchester City, Sheikh Masour, would be willing to give the go ahead on a £20 million purchase remains to be seen however.

The City squad also seems amply covered in midfield following the arrivals of Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell over the summer.

Mancini’s frustration during the summer window over the lack of transfer activity, with the club’s owners reportedly taking a more prudent approach to the market with Financial Fair Play looing on the horizon.

De Rossi would appear to have little sell on value and would command a hefty wage packet.

Chelsea also spent huge sums of money in the summer transfer window in an attempt to lower the average age of their squad, although there is potentially a position available as a defensive midfielder with Frank Lampard coming to the end of his career and John Obi-Mikel never quite winning over the Stamford Bridge faithful.

In other transfer news, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Veratti has revealed he would love for De Rossi to sign for the French club in January.

"Daniele is having a great time in Rome, but it would be a pleasure to play with him," the former Pescara player said.

"I hope so, but I know it will be difficult."
