Teenage striker Chuba Akpom has signed his first professional contract with Arsenal, the club have confirmed.
The 17-year-old has been in impressive form for the club this season at both Under-21 and NextGen level, and scored in the former competition this week in the defeat of Reading.
Akpom netted the opener at Barnet's Underhill stadium after a corner from returning Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, and will undoubtedly look to the Gunners midfielder as inspiration while continuing to progress through the ranks.
The youngster also has two goals in three appearances in the NextGen Series this term, but his pro deal with Arsenal is reward for a number of years of hard work with the Emirates Stadium club.
Given Arsene Wenger's willingness to provide his young players with the opportunity to play in the Capital One Cup, Akpom could be given a chance in the Arsenal first team this season should he continue his upward trajectory.
The London-born forward was selected for England under-18s when he was aged only 15, and appeared for the Young Lions on 15 occasions last season.
