Arsenal starlet sets three-figure target
Arsenal news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants 100 England caps
Arsenal starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is aiming to get over 100 caps for England and help them to win their first trophy since 1966.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has rocketed to prominence since joining the Gunners from Southampton last year, becoming a regular fixture in the first team at Emirates Stadium and breaking into the Three Lions squad.
Now the 19-year-old is hoping he can become and automatic choice in the starting XIs for both his country and Arsenal, but he also plans on staying there for the foreseeable future.
“I want to get as many caps as I can for England, score as many goals as I can, win as many things as I can with England and Arsenal,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“Everyone would like to get to 100 caps, but that’s a massive target. If I can get close to that I will be absolutely delighted.
“I guess I could say 100 and I would be more than satisfied. I’ve got to do well on and off the pitch to get there, though.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s progress has been so successful that he appears to have moved ahead of Arsenal team-mate Theo Walcott in the pecking order under both Wenger and England boss Roy Hodgson.
He currently operates primarily in wide positions but Wenger has stated many times that he sees him eventually moving into a more central position – a role he filled excellently in Arsenal’s valiant, but ultimately failed, attempt to overturn a 4-0 Champions League last-16 deficit against AC Milan last season.
Things are also looking up off the pitch, as he is reportedly set to sign a lucrative new contract with telecoms giant O2, as well as having his own show on the Arsenal official website.
