Arsenal are looking to step up the recovery of young star Jack Wilshere and will arrange an extra friendly during the international break.

Wilshere has looked impressive in his recent outings for the Gunners’ Under-21 side but there is not another one until October 22 and the reserves manager, Terry Burton, indicated another game would be beneficial to maintain Wilshere’s recovery.

The new Arsenal number ten is not the only player at the Gunners in the early stages of injury recovery, regular right-back Bacary Sagna made his first appearance since returning to full training after a broken leg against Reading Under-21s on Monday night.

Wilshere starred in that game, playing crucial parts on both goals of the 2-0 victory, while his fellow Arsenal academy graduate Emmanuel Frimpong also continued his comeback from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

It was Wilshere’s second appearance in an Arsenal shirt since summer of 2011 and Burton revealed a behind closed doors friendly was in the offing to get the England international back to first team level as quickly as possible.

“There is no Under-21 fixture scheduled for next week, and so the club are trying to arrange something to fill the gap,” Burton said.

“We'll probably try and rearrange a game of some sort next week to keep them going. Obviously I'll speak to the boss about that, but we'll try and fix them another game.”

It is unclear as to how quickly Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger intends to bring Wilshere back into his first team plans, but the Capital One Cup fourth-round fixture at the end of this month could be a possible comeback date.
