Michael Owen wants to down Manchester United and is hoping he can be fit for the Red Devils’ clash with his new club Stoke City after the international break.

Owen was not offered a new contract at Old Trafford this summer and chose to join Stoke City on a free transfer not long ago.

The Potters’ next game is against Manchester United at Old Trafford and Owen is working hard to make it after missing out on the clash with another of his former clubs, Liverpool, last Sunday.

"I was looking at it thinking Liverpool away and Manchester United away, it was going to be an interesting October," he said on Sky Sports.

"Obviously I missed the first one but I am desperate to be fit for the second one.”

Owen may be desperate to get back in time for the clash on Saturday, October 20, but history isn’t on Stoke City’s side when playing against Manchester United – they have lost on every occasion, bar one, since they returned to the top flight.

However, Stoke City are on a good run of form and have lost just once this season, but Manchester United are also playing well, having just thumped Newcastle United 3-0 at St James’ Park.
