City won't rule out bid for Chelsea target Falcao
Falcao transfer news: Manchester City could bid for Arsenal & Chelsea target Falcao
Manchester City development executive Patrick Vieira says the Premier League champions would still be willing to battle Arsenal and Chelsea for Atletico Madrid striker Falcao, despite the club focusing more on youth.
Falcao is one of the most hotly pursued players in Europe giving his goalscoring exploits for Atleti, and has been consistently linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and City since his move to Spain.
The 26-year-old Colombia international has found the net on 47 occasions in 57 appearances for the club - including 11 goals this season - since signing for Atleti from Porto following the sale of Sergio Aguero to Manchester City.
Unsurprisingly he is reportedly being monitored by a host of Premier League clubs, with City joined in the race for his signature by Arsenal and Chelsea.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has, it is claimed, identified Falcao as a January target as he looks to bring in further reinforcements alongside Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, while Chelsea require another option to Fernando Torres.
And, says Vieira, City would have no problem challenging Arsenal and Chelsea should Roberto Mancini want to bring Falcao to the Etihad Stadium.
"That is the manager's call, you never know, but our philosophy will be to try to bring in young players from the academy," Vieira told Goal.com when asked about a possible move for Falcao.
"Clubs like us, United, Chelsea, Arsenal will always try and bring in one exceptional player because that is the way it is, but the majority we want to come from the academy. We are talking about a project over the next 10-15 years."
