Ajax trial ex-Tottenham winger

Published Add your comment

Dutch giants Ajax have taken former Tottenham youngster Ronnie Hawkins on trial, reports Sky Sports.

The 18-year-old winger featured in an under-21 game on Wednesday, which was watched by the Eredivisie club's hierarchy, including first team coach Frank de Boer.

Frank's brother Ronald de Boer, Wim Jonk, Dennis Bergkamp and Johan Cruyff were also in attendance as a number of first-team players were given a run-out.

Hawkins is currently a free agent after leaving White Hart Lane at the end of last season, with Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas showing no desire to renew his contract when he arrived in north London in August.

The Irish youth international spent part of pre-season training with Norwich City, under the watchful eye of former Tottenham coach, Chris Hughton. But, after the Premier League side chose not to offer him a deal, Hawkins is now looking to make it across the English channel in Holland.
