Arsenal transfer sights on Uruguayan striker
Arsenal transfer news: Abel Hernandez linked with Gunners switch
Arsenal are being linked with a move for Palermo striker Abel Hernandez, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claims the Uruguayan forward is one of a number of options to Gunners chief Arsene Wenger in the January transfer window, with ‘the professor’ ready to spend big as he searches for a replacement for Robin Van Persie.
It’s speculated that that the Arsenal manager has £35 million to spend in the opening month of 2013, and the Frenchman has already told his scouting network to start drawing-up a list of possible targets.
Other names said to be in the frame in north London include Fernando Llorente and Stevan Jovetic, and Hernandez’s goalscoring record with the Rosanero would suggest that any move for him would be a gamble.
The 21-year-old has netted just 16 times in Serie ‘A’ over the last three-and-a-half seasons, with injury impacting his number of appearances at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in each of the campaigns.
His international form would give Arsenal fans more hope however, with three goals in eight appearances since making his debut in 2010.
With Olivier Giroud yet to find top form and Gervinho playing a central role at the start of the campaign, a move for a striker seems logical at the Emirates Stadium, but it will be up to the Arsenal boss to decide which player he pursues in January.
