Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has hinted he will favour Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Manchester United star for Oranje's World Cup 2014 qualifier with Andorra on Friday.
Huntelaar has scored five goals for Schalke this season, compared to Van Persie's seven for Manchester United, but Van Gaal believes the former represents a better option for the Netherlands against their lowly opposition.
Van Gaal also added that he only considers Van Persie to be a central striker and therefore will not try to accommodate the Manchester United star and Huntelaar in the same starting XI.
“We're expecting to enter the box a lot, in matches like that you can expect Klaas-Jan will play,” the former Bayern Munich boss told Goal.com.
“I see him [Van Persie] as a striker and won't put him on another position so fast.”
Should he miss out against Andorra, however, Van Persie is likely to feature for the next World Cup qualifier against Romania on Tuesday, before returning to club duty with Manchester United.
United face Stoke City at Old Trafford a week on Saturday and Van Persie is expected to retain a starting spot, although Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to rest his £24 million summer acquisition.
