Italian strike starlet on Manchester United radar

Published Add your comment

Manchester United are being linked with a move for highly-rated Italian striker Domenico Berardi, according to reports.

The 18-year-old Sassuolo starlet has been making a name for himself in Serie ‘B’ at the start of the current campaign, and the club’s general director revealed last month that Sir Alex Ferguson was paying ‘great attention’ to the player.

“The interest from Manchester United? The player is followed with great attention by many clubs, including the Red Devils and also Juventus,” Nereo Bonato told SkySports.

“But there are other Italian and foreign sides who have observed him in recent games.”

Manchester United now appear to have followed up that initial interest, with reports in Italian publication Corriere Mercantile claiming Ferguson has asked his scouting network to compile a dossier on the player.

CalcioMercato goes on to claim that both Genoa and German champions Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing the player, who has scored one goal for the Stadio Alberto Braglia outfit this season.

Were Berardi to join Manchester United in the January transfer window, he’d be joining a host of young talent at Old Trafford, with Ferguson looking to build a lasting legacy at the club post-retirement.
