Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata has revealed he thinks Barcelona and Real Madrid's domination of La Liga is hurting Spanish football.

The Spain international joined the Stamford Bridge side from Valencia, and won the Champions League and FA Cup in his first year with the Blues.

And the 24-year-old said it would have been almost "impossible" to win any trophies with his old club, such is the dominance enjoyed by the El Clasico clubs.

"I'm a little worried to see so many players leave the Spanish Liga, for the competitiveness of the league," Mata told France Foot.

"We have two teams fighting for the title, and the third, for four years, ends 30 points [behind] the champion.

"If you don't play for Real or Barca, you can't win a trophy."

Mata fears more Spanish stars will have to leave Spain to find success, much like how he left Valencia for Chelsea.

Santi Cazorla left Malaga for Arsenal this summer, and the Andulusian club are another Spanish team that have found themselves in financial difficulties after chasing domestic success.

Before that, Fernando Torres left Atletico Madrid to join Liverpool, and the now-Chelsea striker has found success in England.

But Mata believes the Premier League, along with La Liga, is the best league in the world.

Chelsea currently sit top of the Premier League table, and Mata has gelled well with new Blues' signings Eden Hazard and Oscar, as Roberto Di Matteo's side have opted for a more attacking approach.
