Arsenal & Liverpool forward target “cheap” at £11m
Liverpool, Arsenal transfer news: Wilfried Zaha’s manager says £11m “cheap”
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been told to forget about signing Crystal Palace starlet Wilfired Zaha.
Recent reports in the media have claimed the Gunners, Reds and Citizens are all interested in moving for the England Under-21 star, possibly even as soon as January, but his manager Dougie Freedman was adamant Zaha would be going nowhere.
A price tag of £11million had been mooted if Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City wanted to land the 19-year-old, but Freedman laughed off that amount and insisted that was far too low a valuation for Zaha.
“I know he is worth more than £11m. You're getting him cheap if you get him for that,” he is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
“Wilfried has dedicated himself to the game and is heading in the right direction. We give young players the chance to play and that's what he is doing now.”
Arsenal were reported to have stepped up their interest earlier in the week, with manager Arsene Wenger sending out his former assistant manager, Pat Rice, to watch Zaha in action.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have serious problems in the attack department having let Andy Carroll leave on loan in the summer without drafting in a replacement. Now Fabio Borini has been struck down with a broken foot while training with Italy, so Brendan Rodgers only has Luis Suarez as a proven goalscorer.
Zaha has the ability to play in all positions across an attacking three, as well as behind a centre-forward, so Rodgers’ reported interest could have a lot to do with this versatility.
Freedman did concede Zaha was destined to play in the Premier League in the near future but hoped Crystal Palace’s good start to the Championship season – they are in fourth, just three points off the leaders – could persuade Zaha to try and do so with his current club.
“It's a matter of time until he plays in the Premier League and let's hope that is with Crystal Palace,” added the Scot.
“As we speak right now he's on a long contract and he's very happy.”
