Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba, in a bid to solve their striker crisis.
The Anfield club were already short of experience up front due to Andy Carroll’s departure not being followed by a replacement coming in, and the problem was compounded this week when summer signing Fabio Borini was struck down with a broken foot while training with Italy.
A report in the Daily Mail claims Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to relieve some of the goalscoring burden on star striker Luis Suarez and would be open to meeting Ba’s £7million release clause, which kicks in once the January transfer window opens, due to being told they won’t land main target, Hamburg’s Son Heung-min.
The Bundesliga side have reportedly told Liverpool to forget about signing the South Korea international and have even been prompted to discuss a new contract with the 20-year-old in response to the Premier League interest, according to the report.
Son’s inexperience may not have been what the Merseysiders needed in the middle of a season where quality striking depth is a serious issue, but Ba has shown consistent quality in the Premier League and could, conceivably, slot into the Liverpool side without much fuss.
