Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he plans to be active in the January transfer window in order to bolster his ‘thin’ squad.

Liverpool came in for criticism after the close of the summer transfer window for failing to add to their squad after the addition of Samed Yesil the day before deadline day.

The main concern for the Merseyside club is surely the lack of firepower they possess up front, with Andy Carroll’s loan switch to West Ham leaving them with Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as their only senior forwards.

Now with the latter out injured for up to three months, Rodgers faces a nervous wait until the transfer window opens in January before he can add to his squad.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, the former Swansea manager confirmed he has spoken to Liverpool’s owners about adding reinforcements in January in order to add some depth to his squad.

“There are still areas we want to reinforce - and we have to reinforce as soon as we can," he said.

"Our best team are comparable to any team in the Premier League. But we're a very thin squad and we are having to challenge on a lot of fronts.

"I've had good conversations with the owners and they understand where we are at as a team."

Liverpool have been linked with a host of attacking players ahead of the January transfer window, with reports today linking both Darren Bent and Loic Remy with a move to Anfield.
