Manchester City star Javi Garcia has urged the Etihad Stadium club to beat Chelsea to the signing of striker Radamel Falcao.
Both Roberto Mancini and Roberto di Matteo are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid’s star striker, with Blues owner Roman Abramovich reportedly ready to stump up the £46million to activate his release clause.
Now Garcia, a Manchester City summer signing, has said he would like the club to move for Europe’s latest emerging star, claiming the prospect of playing against Falcao was definitely the worse of two options.
“He’s a great player and he can play in any league that he wants at the moment,” he said in an interview with Sport 360.
“Falcao has been fantastic. He is scoring a lot of goals in La Liga now and I already know him from Portugal where he did the same.
“I would rather play with him than against him. I faced him for Benfica against Porto when we were both playing in Portugal so I know what he can do. I’d be happy to have him in my team.”
The 26-year-old was a record breaker while in Portugal, notching the highest individual goals tally on the way to lifting the Europa League with Andre Villas-Boas’ Porto.
He has been doing the same since he moved to La Liga, but he really shot to prominence in the UK after Atleti’s 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup, where he tore the Blues’ defence apart to score a first half hat-trick.
Manchester City must also have been impressed because Mancini has since travelled to Spain to get a better look at Falcao, watching him score, again, in Madrid’s league win over Malaga a last week.
Atletico would find it difficult to turn down a sizeable bid from Manchester City or Chelsea, with the club’s owner even admitting the sale of Falcao could answer their debt problems.
