Liverpool & Chelsea set for £15m French striker fight
Liverpool & Chelsea transfer news: Loic Remy linked with Premier League move
Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for French international striker Loic Remy – a long-term target of Chelsea.
The 25-year-old Marseille hitman was the subject of a deadline day move from the Blues in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Express on Wednesday, and manager Roberto Di Matteo has sent Chelsea scouts to watch the player as recently as last Sunday.
However, competition will come in the shape of Liverpool, according to reports in The Guardian – as cited on Eurosport.fr - with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers eager to bring the player to Anfield as a partner for Luis Suarez.
Remy, who started his career with Lyon, scored 20 goals in all competitions for L’OM last season, reminding top clubs around Europe of his ability despite the Ligue 1 club’s disappointing domestic form.
However, reports in The Sun on Wednesday claimed that £15 million-rated Remy is now at the top of the Chelsea wanted list, meaning owner Roman Abramovich is unlikely to let the player join a Premier League rival without a fight.
Liverpool, much like their west London rivals, have a lack of options in attack, with Suarez the only recognised senior striker on Merseyside now Fabio Borini is utilised out wide.
Whether owners Fenway Sports Group will be willing to spend big on the player, remains to be seen.
