Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny says that Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is a 'very clever' striker, even if he is not as smart as former Gunners captain Robin van Persie.

Koscielny has identified Rooney as one of the toughest forwards he has faced during his time as an Arsenal player, although says the England international is not a patch on former teammate Van Persie.

"[Wayne Rooney] is very clever, even if Robin van Persie is even smarter," Koscielny told L'Equipe about the Manchester United duo.

"He goes back to the midfield quite often. Rooney likes the ball and to assist."

When asked who the toughest forward he has faced is, Koscielny outlined the difficulty he had when facing Liverpool's Luis Suarez - although he was particularly disparaging about the Uruguayan.

Koscielny branded Suarez a cheat who 'likes to dive' and the Arsenal centre-back could perhaps now face sanction from the Football Association for the comments made to the French magazine.

The France international, meanwhile, also revealed that the most impressive striker he has seen play is former Chelsea star Didier Drogba, whose heroics saw the Blues land the Champions League for the first time in May.
