Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in Italy Under-19 star Domenico Berardi.
The Sassuolo forward has reportedly been a target of Sir Alex Ferguson for some time, but calciomercato.com have now claimed the Old Trafford club are becoming more proactive in their hunt and are “continuously pressing” the matter with his club.
Berardi was reportedly the subject of a dossier compiled by Manchester United scouts last month, so the latest reports of them stepping up the interest would suggest they like what they have seen so far.
The 18-year-old broke into the first team at the Serie B side last season and performed impressively for a player so young, leading to the Red Devils’ interest.
Manchester United do not have a great track record when it comes to young talent out of Italy, especially when they are signed and integrated into the club’s youth system.
Players such as Federico Macheda and Guiseppe Rossi have failed to make the step up to the first team at Old Trafford in recent years, though the latter has gone on to become a renowned goalscorer in Spain and only serious injury problems have stopped him from moving to another big European club.
