As well as celebrating his 100th cap for Portugal tonight, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo can revel in becoming the first sportsman to receive over 50 million 'Likes' on Facebook.
The Independent reports how the 27-year-old is the most popular sportsman on the social networking site, boasting 10million more fans than his nearest online rival, and great adversary on the football field, Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
David Beckham lies in third place with 21million 'Likes', while Ronaldo's team-mate at the Santiago Bernabeu, Kaka is fourth with 18million. Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta, another La Masia graduate at Barca, lies seventh with 10million fans.
The rest of the top ten most popular sportsmen on Facebook are made up from non-footballers, namely: Lebron James (fifth), Michael Jordan (sixth), and Dwayne Wade (eighth), from the world of basketball, Indian cricket batsman Sachin Tendulkar (ninth), and WWE wrestler John Cena (tenth).
Ronaldo's overall fan figure also means that 5 per cent of everyone who uses Facebook is a fan of the former Manchester United player.
