Exciting young Manchester City striker John Guidetti has put pen to paper on a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, ending speculation regarding his future.

The 20-year-old has gained a reputation as a star of the future around Europe since he left the Citizens for a spell on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord last season, scoring 20 goals in just 23 Eredivisie appearances.

Guidetti was linked with a move to Sunderland in the summer, but a mystery virus he picked up at the end of last season put paid to any switch and now Manchester City appear to have decided to let him challenge for a starting XI spot.

“I feel really happy of course, it’s a fantastic football club and to sign a new deal is really, really good,” he told the official Manchester City website upon signing.

“I’ve been here for a long time and Manchester City are the ones who have helped me grow and develop to the player I am today, so I am very grateful for that and I’ve seen how the club has turned into one of the biggest clubs in the world and it is great to be a part of that.”

The Sweden international will not find it easy to get into Roberto Mancini’s side, however, as he has the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlso Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko ahead of him.

Guidetti joined the City academy as a 16-year-old from Swedish side Brommapokjarna and immediately impressed with his performances, scoring freely at youth level.

He has only made one competitive senior appearance for City, in the League Cup loss to West Brom two seasons ago, where he set up his side’s only goal.
