Loic Remy has handed Chelsea and Liverpool a possible transfer blow, by revealing that he has no plans to leave Marseille when the transfer window re-opens in January.

TalkSPORT reports how the 25-year-old forward came close to a Premier League switch during the summer, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.

Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo wanted to bring the France international to Stamford Bridge, but wasn't able to after Daniel Sturridge opted not to leave west London.

Chelsea added several midfielders to their ranks during the last transfer window, but with only two senior strikers in the aforementioned Sturridge and Fernando Torres, the club is keen for further reinforcements in the New Year.

Meanwhile, another manager short on firepower is Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers, after summer signing Fabio Borini broke his foot during the international break, leaving Luis Suarez as the only fit first-team striker at Anfield.

The decision to let Andy Carroll leave on loan has left them particularly short in attack, with Remy offering an attractive option, with his ability to play out wide or through the middle.

However, any hopes either side may have had of signing the Marseille star have now been all but extinguished, after he intimated he has no desire to leave the Stade Velodrome.

"I will not leave the club this winter," Remy confirmed in an interview with Mercato365.com. "In football anything can happen, but I am not a candidate for departure."
