Atletico Madrid star Falcao - a reported target for Arsenal and Chelsea - is on the radar of Manchester City as the Premier League champions make plans for the January transfer window, according to the club's top scout.

Falcao has been frequently linked with a move away from Atletico following a superb debut season in Madrid, while his rapid start to the new campaign has seen further speculation that he could join Arsenal, Chelsea or City.

Arsene Wenger has reportedly identified Falcao as a potential New Year acquisition as he attempts to reinforce his Arsenal strikeforce consisting of Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been credited with interest in Falcao since his time with Porto, and the Blues remain short up front with the inconsistent Fernando Torres their only senior striker.

Manchester City, however, appear to have moved ahead of their Premier League counterparts with their interest in the 26-year-old Colombian confirmed, and Roberto Mancini could make his move for Falcao at the next available opportunity.

City, though, are not interested in Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic.

"[Falcao] is an interesting player, he has quality. But in attack City are already good, we're happy with Tevez, Aguero and Balotelli," chief scout Carlo Cancellieri told

"Moreover, I believe that our players are better than Jovetic. He is a very good player, but he is not one who could make a difference such as Falcao.

"I spoke about him in recent days with [Roberto] Mancini. If we were to take a player in January, we should take Falcao.

"He is an important player, the only one who could make us take the leap."
