Chelsea defender target pens new contract with German champions
Chelsea transfer news: Lukasz Piszczek has signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea target Lukasz Piszczek has ended speculation over his future by signing a new deal at Borussia Dortmund.
TalkSPORT reports how the 27-year-old defender was heavily linked with a move to the Champions League holders, after the free transfer departure of Jose Bosingwa during the summer.
Blues boss Roberto di Matteo was credited with an interest in bringing Piszczek to Stamford Bridge, but opted instead to sign highly-rated Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta, as a back-up to first-choice right-back Branislav Ivanovic.
Scouts have continued to monitor the Polish international's performances in the Bundesliga this season, along with a number of other unnamed Premier League clubs, leading to speculation Chelsea could renew their attempts to sign him when the transfer window reopens in January.
However, any hopes Di Matteo may have had of luring him to west London have now been affectively dashed, after Piszczek put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at Signal Iduna Park until 2017.
"I have been playing for two years in Dortmund and I am happy with the football culture, the club and the fans," he said in the aftermath of the announcement.
"It is a great feeling to play for this special club. It is an exceptional club to play for."
