Liverpool are reportedly determined to secure the services of young Schalke midfielder Lews Holtby, who will be available on a free transfer next summer.
Holtby has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the summer transfer window but now, it would appear, the Reds are ready to intensify their pursuit of the Germany international.
According to Goal.com, Liverpool are making plans to convince Holtby to move to Anfield on a Bosman when his contract with Schalke expires at the end of the season.
Schalke are reported to be prepared to allow Holtby to run down his contract, with a potential fee to capture his signature in the January transfer window hardly set to make much difference to the club's coffers.
The acquisition of goalscoring reinforcements will remain a priority for Liverpool during the New Year, with Brendan Rodgers content with not hastening a move for Holtby in the winter transfer news.
Holtby, 22, was born to an English father and supports Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton, while he has maintained his ambition to one day play in the Premier League.
Capturing Holtby could prove to be quite a coup for Liverpool, given that the youngster has also been linked with a transfer to Arsenal.
