Manchester United have been given the green light to move for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman in the summer, reports talkSPORT.

The 22-year-old Dutch international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Eredivisie, with AC Milan also credited with an interest in signing him in January.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a keen admirer of Strootman, and was believed to be considering a £15million move to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.

However, the player's agent, Chiel Dekker, has consistently denied suggestions that his client is seeking a move away from his native Holland, but hinted that a transfer could be possible at the end of 2012/13.

"My client could leave in January? Absolutely not. There's nothing in that," he told Calciomercato in Italy. "We are only in October - the only thing I can say is to call me back in May."

Manchester United's lack of a sturdy midfield presence has been well-documented in the past few seasons, hence Ferguson's reason for scouting the PSV star, as he continues his search for a long-term replacement for club veteran Paul Scholes.
