Chelsea star hails Di Matteo as 'perfect' manager

Published 2 Comments

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has paid tribute to Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo, calling the former-Chelsea star the 'perfect' manager for the Stamford Bridge side.

Di Matteo took over from Andre Villas-Boas last March, and guided Chelsea to a famous double, winning the FA Cup and Champions League.

And Mata hailed Di Matteo as a club legend, as Chelsea, who sit four points clear at the top of the table, left White Hart Lane with all three points after coming from behind to beat Spurs 4-2 at the weekend.

"Robbie knows the team and the club very well," said Mata on talkSPORT. "He is a legend here.

"He knows how important it is for the club to play these kinds of games, to win again the Champions League like last season. So, I think for us, he's the perfect manager."

Chelsea take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League this week, as they look to continue their excellent start to the season.

The Blues have four points from their first two games in the European competition, but this week's trip to Ukraine poses their sternest test yet. Shakhtar have won all their matches in the Ukrainian league so far this season, and have an impressive record at the Donbass Arena.

Mata has also started the campaign in sparkling form. Although the Spaniard played a limited role as Spain romped to the Euro 2012 trophy, the inevitable feel-good factor around his national squad seems to have rubbed off on Mata and Torres, who have formed part of an excellent attacking quartet at Chelsea.

New signings Oscar and Eden Hazard have also settled quickly into life at Stamford Bridge, and Di Matteo is likely to continue with the same again against Shakhtar as Chelsea look to consolidate their position in the groups.
