Liverpool have reportedly joined the race for highly-rated Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, who is also wanted by Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Kenya international, who impressed in Celtic's heartbreaking defeat to Barcelona in the Camp Nou on Tuesday, has been linked with Manchester United for some time, but the Red Devils may have to battle with bitter rivals Liverpool for his signature.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have been tracking Wanyama since July, while the 19-time champions have since been joined in their pursuit by Manchester City and Liverpool.

Celtic have offered Wanyama a new contract in the hope of keeping him from the clutches of his Premier League suitors, although the 21-year-old may struggle to resist temptation should Manchester United, City or Liverpool come calling.

Wanyama is able to operate in midfield, at full-back or in the centre of defence, and his versatility will surely appeal to Sir Alex Ferguson, Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Mancini.

The Kenyan could provide Manchester United with extra steel in backline prone to leaks this season, while the acquisition of a midfield anchor will surely appeal to Liverpool boss Rodgers.

Manchester City, meanwhile, may be the least likely to recruit Wanyama given the summer signing of Javi Garcia, although doubts over the future of Yaya Toure may prompt a move.
