Liverpool are being linked with a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens.
Mertens moved to the Philips Stadion in the summer of 2011, signing a five-year deal with the club after completing a £13m joint-transfer with Kevin Strootman from FC Utrecht.
But, despite having over three-and-a-half years left on his current deal, Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Mertens. Indeed, a source close to the player revealed at the start of October that the Reds were keen on bringing the player to Merseyside.
“He would obviously love to play for such a prestigious club in English football but right now he can only focus on producing strong performances for PSV.”
Theo Walcott has been linked with a move to Liverpool on a number of occasions since the closing stages of the summer transfer window, with the winger’s Arsenal contract set to expire at the end of the season and a breakthrough yet to be made in negotiations.
The Daily Mail reported last weekend that both clubs would be willing to settle on a £10 million transfer fee for the England man in January, but with a lack of Champions League football on offer at Anfield, Walcott may not be willing to leave the Emirates Stadium for the Europa League.
