Liverpool striker target Joel Pohjanpalo admits he hasn’t heard anything over a possible move away from HJC Helsinki – but is waiting to see what happens in January.

The 18-year-old forward – who enjoyed a one-week trial with the Reds under former manager Kenny Dalglish – was linked with a move to Anfield in the Daily Mail as recently as last week.

It’s not just Liverpool who are interested in the player however, with Borussia Monchengladbach also tracking the Finland U21 international’s progress.

Pohjanpalo would appear to be keen on Merseyside over Germany however, and admits that he’ll wait to see what happens in the New Year.

“It sure feels nice that Liverpool are perhaps interested in me again. However, I have not heard anything yet myself, just read about it in the papers,” he told vastapalo.fi in an interview ahead of the weekend title victory.

“We will just have to wait and see what happens after the season in January.”

Speaking in May, the talented teenager admitted it was a difficult decision to reject a three-year contract offer on Merseyside, but felt that a lack of potential one-on-one time with a coach could hinder his progress.

“It was, of course, a difficult decision, but HJK is a pretty great club,” he told radio station ylex.yle.fi.

“I do not think that Liverpool could offer a free day for the coach to come and train with me. My guess is that it would not be possible.”

Pohjanpalo shot to global attention after scoring a ‘perfect’ three-minute hat-trick for HJK as the start of the current season, and the youngster would add depth in the attacking position at Liverpool if he were to complete a move in the opening month of 2013.
