Arsenal midfield enforcer set for another loan spell

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has admitted he's not quite ready for the Gunners first-team yet, and could be set for another spell on loan.

The 20-year-old spent a short spell on loan at Wolves last season, making five league appearances, but his stint was cut short when he suffered a season-ending knee injury, and the youngster returned to Arsenal.

The England under-17 youth international has since rejoined first-team training with the Gunners, but revealed he still thinks he still some way short of making his return to the Arsenal squad.

"I still don't think I am 100 per cent right," said Frimpong in the Daily Mirror. "I don't want to push myself if I'm not ready - I don't think I am ready for the Arsenal first-team yet."

Frimpong came through the academy at Arsenal, and has made a handful of appearances for the Gunners in a holding midfield role.

But Frimpong has been overtaken in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium by a mixture of talented youngsters and new signings, as others have capitalised when given their first-team chance.

Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey, Abou Diaby and the returning Jack Wilshere all block Frimpong's path to the first-team, while Francis Coquelin has made a number of assured performances for Arsene Wenger's side this season.

As a result, Frimpong may have to follow the example set by fellow Arsenal academy product Craig Eastmond.

Like Frimpong, Eastmond has made a small handful of first-team appearances for the Gunners, but has dropped down the leagues on loan to get more experience.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at League 1 Colchester United, and has impressed the Essex side with his performances so far this season.
