Manchester United are being linked with a move for highly-rated Bundesliga defender Neven Subotic.
Italian website TMW and Portuguese newspaper A Bola both claim that Sir Alex Ferguson has set his sights on the 23-year-old centre back, who has a €45 million minimum fee release clause in his contract at Borussia Dortmund.
The 31-cap Serbian international began his senior career with Mainz 05 in 2007, before making a move to the Westfalenstadion the following year.
Back-to-back domestic titles have since come to Subotic in the past two seasons, and his imperious form has led to subsequent Manchester United transfer speculation.
The Red Devils were also linked with Uruguayan international Diego Lugano yesterday, suggesting that Ferguson is eager to add some strength-in-depth to his back line.
Injuries in the centre back position ravaged Manchester United last season, playing a part in their early Champions League exit and failure to win the Premier League title.
Were Subotic to make the move to Old Trafford, he'd be challenging compatriot Nemanja Vidic for a place in the Manchetser United side, as well as Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
