Financial troubles at AS Roma have boosted Manchester City’s chances of sealing a transfer deal for midfielder Daniele de Rossi.
A report from talkSPORT, claims that the Citizens’ manager Roberto Mancini is an admirer of the Italy international and comments from a Roma shareholder will have boosted his confidence in a pursuit that looked failed after De Rossi’s comments this summer.
The Giallorossi have released their financial statements, which showed the club making an operating loss of £47million, which prompted an angry response from shareholders – one even blaming the loss on the failure to offload De Rossi when Manchester City came calling.
“It was commercial suicide failing to sell De Rossi,” one shareholder is quoted as saying by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero.
The Etihad Stadium side were reportedly close to signing the 29-year-old in the summer, but he decided to remain at the Stadio Olimpico in the end and signed a new deal.
However, Roma have since hired a new manager in Zdenek Zeman and the relationship between him and De Rossi has deteriorated since the midfielder was dropped from the side.
