Police set to investigate Clattenberg after Chelsea allegations

Referee Mark Clattenburg is set to be the subject of a police investigation over alleged comments made to Chelsea stars during their defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

The FA have already started an investigation following a complaint from Chelsea that claimed Clattenburg had used “inappropriate language” towards certain Blues players – the Police investigation comes after a complaint by a member of the public.

Manchester City defender Micah Richards has been ruled out for four months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

The England international suffered the injury late in the 1-0 victory over Swansea City on Sunday and went under the knife on Monday afternoon.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted he still wants to win the Capital One Cup, despite admitting at the club’s recent AGM that it was bottom on the list of his priorities for a season.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes Sir Alex Ferguson’s side deserved a bit of luck in their victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

Finally, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has claimed the tactics used by Merseyside rivals Everton in the two sides’ recent 2-2 draw were similar to that of Stoke City.

Gerrard claimed his side were the only ones trying to play passing football and criticised the Toffees for resorting to the long ball and using their superior physicality.
