Distin says Luis Suarez could have broken his ankle
Liverpool news: Everton defender Sylvain Distin says Luis Suarez nearly broke his ankle
Everton defender Sylvain Distin has accused Liverpool striker Luis Suarez of nearly breaking his ankle.
The Uruguayan was booked for the challenge where he appeared to deliberately step on the back of the centre-half’s foot during the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park last Sunday.
Suarez claimed it was accidental at the time, but Everton manager David Moyes revealed he thought it was a deliberate attempt to injure the Frenchman and that the Liverpool star should have been sent off.
Now Distin has taken to Twitter to suggest Suarez’s actions were more sinister than he made out at the time, and claimed the challenge could have given him a serious injury.
“Thanks for the concern. My ankle is all good considering it could have been broken,” he said on his profile.
Brendan Rodgers’ side threw away a two-goal lead in the first half of an entertaining game, but the Liverpool boss will be frustrated at having a goal disallowed near the end of the match that would have likely sealed the points.
Distin’s alleged stamp was not the only piece of controversy to surround Suarez during the match; he also dived theatrically in front of Moyes in his goal celebration – a mocking reference to the Everton manager’s claims before the game that Suarez was a diver.
