Liverpool are finally closing in on a deal to sign highly-rated Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo.

The 18-year-old forward enjoyed a week-long trial at Anfield back in March, with the Reds appearing to beat the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to the player’s services after the Premier League trio sent scouts to watch the player.

However, Pohjanpalo turned down the chance to sign for Liverpool under then-manager Kenny Dalglish, opting to stay with HJC Helsinki and further his career in his homeland.

Things appear to have changed in the mind of the striker though, with the teenager admitting earlier in the week that he was ‘dreaming’ of a move to Liverpool.

And now the Metro claims that talks between the two parties are at ‘an advanced stage’, with the Merseyside outfit ready to make an improved contract offer after the previous snub.

If the deal does go through, then Liverpool would need to pay Helsinki in the region of £1 million, according to the report, as Pohjanpalo is contracted to his club until 2015.
