De Boer hints at Tottenham move for £8m Belgian
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Ajax manager Frank de Boer hints at summer move for Toby Alderweireld
Ajax manager Frank de Boer has suggested midfielder Toby Alderweireld could move to Tottenham next summer, though denied any deal would happen in the January transfer window.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has been linked with an £8million move for the 23-year-old defender this week, though De Boer said he would be going nowhere until the season is finished, unless a large fee is offered in the transfer window.
“That's maybe something for next year, I think he'll end this season at Ajax,” he is quoted by Goal.com to have said in response to reporters’ questions about a possible switch to White Hart Lane.
"We're very happy with him and don't want to let him go in the winter, unless it's a super transfer [fee], but I don't think that will happen.”
The Belgium international comes very highly-rated and is in a similar to his Diables Rouges team-mate and current Tottenham player Jan Vertonghen, though Alderweireld predominantly right-footed.
Spurs have another of his international colleagues at White Hart Lane, having signed midfielder Mousa Dembele in the summer.
Alderweireld would join a whole raft of Belgians migrating to the Premier League; players such as Thomas Vermaelen, Vincent Kompany and Eden Hazard are all excelling at the bigger sides.
Alderweireld will be know to Manchester United supporters too, as it was he that scored a late goal in Ajax’s Europa League clash at Old Trafford last season, making Sir Alex Ferguson’s side sweat before finally going through.
