Liverpool boss hints he wants 'two or three' strikers in January

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says he may have to sign up to three new forwards in the January transfer window in order to solve his Anfield striker crisis.

Luis Suarez is the only fit senior striker available to Rodgers, following the injury to Fabio Borini, a summer acquisition from Italian side Roma.

Andy Carroll, Liverpool's record signing, was allowed to leave Anfield on loan for West Ham during the summer transfer window, while the long-serving Dirk Kuyt also departed the club.

Rodgers has ruled out the possibility of ending Carroll's season-long spell with West Ham early in order to bolster his Liverpool ranks - stating the England international must stay at Upton Park for regular football.

The January transfer window, then, will not come soon enough for Liverpool as Rodgers looks to enhance his goalscoring department in order to provide some support for Suarez.

And, says the Liverpool boss, it may take as many as three players to plug the gaps at Anfield.

"January is a window to freshen up the squad with a number of names," Rodgers told reporters.

"At the top end of the field, we need that help and support. That might take two or three players to do that."
